In order to be able to plant our first coral, the Karang Kita crew raised funds through various methods including selling our own products, busking as well as contacting major companies such as Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of Indonesia.

Raising funds at our highschool

The Karang Kita crew after our pins sold out

During one of our highschool events meant to showcase our work, we decided to sell our pins towards the students and parents that we encountered during that event. After some thorough convincing and persuasion, we were able to sell all our pins and gathered a relatively decent amount of funds.

Car Free Day Busking

Organized by our Head of Finance and Fundraising, Alisha Jocelyn Kemp, we were able to survive against the poor weather conditions and informed passersby about the importance of corals as well as playing improv jingles on the guitar and enjoying the cause overall. Though the funds raised were low compared to the initial fund raising, we were reached out to members of the public and start the conversation.

Support from Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of Indonesia

Through connections made through our members, we were able to receive a donation of 800,000 IDR (eight hundred thousand rupiah) from the governmental ministry.

Conclusion

As such, we were able to raise a total of 2,000,000 IDR (two million indonesian rupiah) from all the methods of fundraising which was then used to fund the planting of corals at Kiluan Dolphin Bay, Lampung, Indonesia on the 31/12/2019.
